One of the most inspiring, dynamic and charismatic ensembles on the musical scene, the Atrium Quartet have established themselves as performers of deep emotion, intellect, virtuosity and technical brilliance. Highly acclaimed by audiences and press the Quartet has performed throughout Europe, Russia, the USA, Australia, Japan and Brazil.
The Atrium Quartet is a winner of two of the most prestigious International Competitions for String Quartet: First prize and Audience Prize of the 9th London International String Quartet Competition in 2003 and Grand-Prix of the 5th International String Quartet Competition in Bordeaux in 2007.
Founded in 2000 in St Petersburg under the inspiration of Professor Josef Levinson, the Quartet graduated from the St Petersburg Conservatoire in 2003 and then completed their education as a quartet-in-residenz in Amsterdam coached by Prof. Stefan Metz at the Netherland String Quartet Academy and in Hochschule fur Musik Hanns Eisler in Berlin with Prof. Eberhard Feltz. The Quartet has also been coached by famous musicians from the Alban Berg Quartet, Vermeer Quartet, by Marc Danel.
Recent highlights for the Atrium Quartet have included recitals at the Wigmore Hall, Royal Festival Hall in London, Library of Congress in Washington, Frick Museum in New York, Les Invalides in Paris, BOZAR in Brussels, De Doelen in Rotterdam, deSingel in Antwerpen, Conservatoire du Geneva, Palau Musica Catalana and L’Auditori in Barcelona, Philharmonic Hall and Mariinsky Concert Hall in St Petersburg, Toppan Hall and Oji Halls in Tokyo, Harpa Concert Hall in Reykjavik as well as recitals at prestigious Festivals such as Beethovenfest, Schleswig-Holstein Festival, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern Festival, Schwetzingen Festival in Germany, Colmar & Luberon Festivals in France, Orlando & Grachtenfestival in the Netherlands, Haydn International Festival in Eszterhaza in Hungary, Davos and Luzern Festivals in Switzerland.

The Quartet has performed with such eminent musicians as violist Richard Young of the Vermeer Quartet, pianists Brigitte Engerer and Jean-Bernard Pommier, cellist Antonio Meneses.
Teaching becomes another important part of Quartet’s activities. The members of the Atrium Quartet shared their experience with young musicians from the UK, USA, Brazil and Russia. Since June 2012 the quartet is the quartet-in-residence at the Sunflower Music Festival in Topeka, USA.
The Atrium Quartet’s discography includes a CD with works by Mozart, Tchaikovsky and Shostakovich made for EMI Classics and a DVD ‘Live in Concert’ in the Netherlands with music by Tchaikovsky. Another CD was recorded in Paris for Zig-Zag Territories (Beethoven Quartet Op.74 in E flat, and Shostakovich Quartet No.5, Op.92), and was the Gramophone’s Editor’s Choice in November 2008. Another CD which includes 9&11 quartets and Piano quintet by D. Shostakovich recorded in St Petersburg with Misha Fomin (piano) and released at RCM in the beginning of 2012. This CD appeared in TOP 10 by Lusiter Magazin, leading musical issue in the Netherlands. The Atrium Quartet recorded all 4 string quartets of Spanish composer Jordi Cervello (Columna Musica, 2015). Two of his quartets («A Bach» & «Sant Petersburg») dedicated to the members of the Atrium Quartet. Next big project of the quartet is the cycle of all 15 quartets by D. Shostakovich is planned for 2015 / 2017 seasons. New recordings of works by Tchaikovsky and Beethoven scheduled in coming seasons.
The Atrium Quartet also introduced World’s first “SHOSTAKOVICH MARATHON” in the year of 2013. The cycle of all 15 quartets by Dmitry Shostakovich the Atrium performs in ONE day. During 2013 the cycle was performed in concert halls in Iceland, Japan, France and Russia. Next Marathons are planned for 2015 and 2016 in Germany, the Netherlands and the USA. In 2014-2015 season Atrium is celebrating the 175th Anniversary of Peter Tchaikovsky with the new, one of the kind, project: “TCHAIKOVSKY MINI FEST”. Entire collection of chamber music written by russian Genius will be performed in one single day. The repertoire of the quartet includes also complete cycles by Mendelssohn and Beethoven.

Natalya Ageyeva

Natalya Ageyeva has dazzled audiences throughout the United States and internationally, including Italy, Austria, and Israel, as well as on tour in her native Russia. Her performances have also been broadcast several times locally on KING-FM in Seattle and televised in Moscow and Chicago. She has appeared at a broad range of venues, including the Governor’s Mansion in Olympia, Carnegie Hall in New York, Benaroya Hall in Seattle, and the Rachmaninoff Hall in Moscow. Her pianism prompted one reviewer to write “Immediately apparent was a tremendous technique at the command of a sharp musical intelligence and fingers of steel.”
Her artistry has earned her awards and recognition around the world, including the Young Artist Competition in Moscow, Rotary Club Scholarship in Chicago, Brechemin Scholarship at the University of Washington, Solo Competition Award from the Ladies Musical Club of Seattle, the Green Lake Music Festival Competition in Wisconsin, Bradshaw & Buono International Piano Competition in New-York, and the Zinetti International Chamber Music Competition in Italy. An artist of great versatility, Ageyeva has performed as a recitalist, chamber musician, and soloist with orchestras internationally. She has also been an active participant in many music festivals, including the Seattle Chamber Music Society’s Summer Festival, Methow Valley Music Festival in Winthrop (WA), Mostly Nordic Chamber Music Series in Seattle, Second City Chamber Series in Tacoma (WA), First Sunday at the Commons Series in Bainbridge Island (WA), Seattle Symphony Chamber Music Series in Seattle (WA), Olympic Music Festival (WA), and Green Lake Music Festival (WI).

Ageyeva began formal piano lessons at the age of thirteen when she was accepted by the prestigious Special Music School for Talented Children in Moscow, and graduated with honors in the Masters Program from the world-renowned Tchaikovsky Conservatory in Moscow, where she studied with Valeriy Kastelsky. While at the Moscow Conservatory, Ageyeva was offered extensive solo and orchestra appearances throughout the former Soviet Union. She completed her doctoral degree at the University of Washington with distinguished pianists Bela Siki and Robin McCabe. She has also worked with well-known pianists John O’Conner, Victor Merjanov, and Helene Grimaud, and collaborated with conductors Vladimir Vais, Alexander Rudin, and Peter Erös. Ageyeva previously taught at Moscow Conservatory and University of Washington, and has adjudicated piano competitions in Chicago, Seattle, and Vancouver BC. Ageyeva is the Founder and Artistic Director of the Russian Chamber Music Foundation of Seattle. It is starting its sixth successful year of bringing high-level chamber music to the Seattle area.
